Hard maple on the left, soft maple (and a short piece of hickory) in the middle, and bubinga on the right. The bubinga has really cool dark streaks and is perfectly straight grained and quartersawn, all 9' of it. Some the maple was "paint grade," meaning half off, but still potentially interesting looking. It should make good rim material regardless.

Sha-banjo Update
Welcome to the new home of shawnstrings Sha-banjo! Twitter is shutting down Posterous, so here we are. Everything is here except the old comments. To anyone who took the time to comment, thanks and I'm sorry the tech is getting in the way of preserving our past conversation. I won't move again unless I have to!
Lately I've been playing my (unfinished) banjo and designing some new ones. I plan to get back in the shop doing one thing or another. As I make progress finishing my banjo, I'll be sure to post here.
Here's a recent recording: Cluck Old Hen.mp3
