Future banjos

I popped into a Chicagoland hardwood store and came away with a nice cache of wood for future projects.

Hard maple on the left, soft maple (and a short piece of hickory) in the middle, and bubinga on the right. The bubinga has really cool dark streaks and is perfectly straight grained and quartersawn, all 9' of it. Some the maple was "paint grade," meaning half off, but still potentially interesting looking. It should make good rim material regardless.
